Our vineyards grow at the foot of the northern face of the mountain range Sierra del Cuchillo The topograhy is slightly undulating at an average altitude of 650 metres above sea level.
The 90 hectare area is divided into the Spanish varieties such as tempranillo, also called cencibel, and the native monastrell, and French varieties which have shown excellent adaptation to our climate: syrah, petit verdot, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and the white chardonnay, viognier and sauvignon blanc.
bush system: the oldest vineyard (between 30 and 40 years) is managed by this tradicional system. The plant takes longer to grow and requires a more exhaustive pruning process. Its very shape protects the clusters from direct sunlight.
Lifting the vines makes the farmwork and harvest easier as well as protecting them from direct contact with the ground. The north-south orientation diminishes the most harmful period of sunlight, midday, and favours the passage of prevailing wind in the area.
The predominant climate is continental, dry and harsh, typical of the Manchegan plateau but marked by the coastal influence of the Mediterranean Sea, just 70 kilometres away.
The location of the vines, on an elevated plain at the foot of the northern face of the mountain range favours the running in of hot and cold air mass in the afternoon and evening.
The combination of differential altitude and latitude marks a long growing season with early budding and sound maturing improved by the effects of daily thermal alternating.
The low rainfall, an annual average of 320mm, makes a drip irrigation with the farm´s own water necessary.
The texture of the soil is sandy loam and contains limestone. It is very permeable which avoids inconvenient flooding of the crop.
We carry out the necessary agronomic tests to maintain the root systems of our plantation healthy and extensive in order to guarantee normal ripening for harvest and suitable withering of the wood.
